Mobile vs Desktop: Random Video Chat Performance

This study compares how random video chat plays out on mobile versus desktop browsers on MonkeyCam: how sessions start, how long conversations last, and how matching behavior differs by device.

Most spontaneous random video chat sessions now start on a phone, but desktop users behave differently. Understanding that gap matters for anyone choosing where — and how — to start a Monkey-style conversation.

Data collection in progress.

Collecting anonymous sessions — this study publishes after the minimum sample and study-period requirements are met.

What We Measure

  • The share of anonymous sessions on mobile versus desktop devices.
  • How match and conversation behavior differs between the two device classes.
  • How session patterns (starts, skips, conversation length) compare across devices during the study period.

Methodology Summary

This study is built from anonymous MonkeyCam sessions. Events are flagged and cleaned before analysis, and results are only published once the sample and study-period requirements are met.
